Samuel Howard Whitbread

Samuel Howard Whitbread CB (born January 8, 1858 in London , † July 29, 1944 ) was a British politician.

Life

Samuel Howard Whitbread is the eldest son of Samuel Whitbread and his wife Isabella Charlotte (née Pelham), daughter of Henry Pelham, 3rd Earl of Chichester . He grew up with a younger brother. He attended Eton College and then Trinity College at the University of Cambridge . In January 1879 he was inducted into the Inner Temple . In 1892 he was elected to the House of Commons in a by-election in the Luton constituency to fill the vacant seat of Cyril Flower, 1st Baron Battersea . Whitbread was a member of the House of Commons until 1905. From 1906 to 1910 he represented the constituency of Huntingdon in the House of Commons. From 1912 to 1936 he held the office of Lord Lieutenant of Bedfordshire . In 1917 he was accepted into the Bath Order .

On January 16, 1904, he married Madeline Emmie Louisa Bourke, younger sister of the garden designer Norah Lindsay . Children were born from marriage.
