Samuele Papi (born May 20, 1973 in Ancona ) is an Italian volleyball player . He took part in four Olympic tournaments and was world and European champion several times.
Career
Papi began his career in 1990 with Pallavolo Falconara . In 1993 he made his debut in the Italian national team , with whom he won the World Cup in Greece the following year by beating the Netherlands . He then switched to Alpitour Traco Cuneo . In 1996 the outside attacker was successful with the club in the Italian Cup and in the CEV Cup . With the national team he took part in the Olympic Games , which ended with the silver medal for Italy after a narrow final defeat against the Netherlands. In 1997 and 1998 Papi and Cuneo won the European Cup Winners' Cup twice in a row . He was then committed by Sisley Treviso . He also defended the title at the World Cup in Japan with the national team against Yugoslavia . Papi's first season was successful with winning the Italian championship and the Champions League . A year later, Treviso won the cup and defended the title in the highest European Cup competition. With the Italians, Papi experienced his second Olympic tournament , in which the team won bronze this time. 2001 and 2003 further championship titles followed in the league. Papi also triumphed with Treviso in the CEV Cup and with the national team at the European Championships in Germany . After the double with the club, the middle blocker took part in the 2004 Olympic tournament for the third time , which ended for Italy in the final against Brazil . Treviso defended both national titles in 2005 and won the Champions League again the following year . Another double followed in 2007. In 2011, Papi said goodbye by winning the CEV Cup from Treviso and moved to Copra Piacenza . In 2012 he won the bronze medal with Italy at the Olympic Games in London .
