San Carlos is the capital of the Venezuelan state of Cojedes and has more than 80,000 inhabitants. Her full name is "San Carlos de Austria". San Carlos is also the seat of the district ( Municipio ) Ezequiel Zamora .
The city is located on the northern edge of the southwestern plain of Venezuela at the foot of the Andean foothills . A road connects them with Guanare in the southwest, Valencia in the north and Barquisimeto in the northwest.
The monk Capuchino Fray Pedro de Berja founded the city on April 27, 1678.
The Mayor of San Carlos District, Dr. José Jesús Betancourt Sanoja, was re-elected in October 2004 with 52% of the vote.
The Circuit of San Carlos near the city hosted interlocutory 1977 and 1979 the Grand Prix of Venezuela as part of the FIM - Motorcycle Road Racing World Championship and in 1976 a round of the Formula 750 World Championship .
