The San Diego River is a 84 km long river in San Diego County , California . It rises northwest of Julian in the Cuyamaca Mountains and then flows southwest to the El Capitan reservoir . He leaves the reservoir again and crosses the cities and villages west of Santee and San Diego . On this way it flows through the Mission Trails Regional Park , which is one of the largest urban parks in the United States . Eventually it flows into the Pacific near Mission Bay . The major tributaries are Boulder Creek, Cedar Creek, Chocolate Creek, Conejos Creek, Forester Creek, Los Coches Creek, and San Vincente Creek.
