The Municipio San Javier is a district in the Santa Cruz Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The municipality of San Javier is one of the six municipalities in the province of Ñuflo de Chávez . It is bordered by the Municipio Concepción to the north, east and southeast , the Province of Guarayos to the west, the Municipio San Julián to the southwest , and the Municipio San Ramón to the south .

The central place of the district is the small town of San Javier with 7,119 inhabitants ( 2012 census ) in the central part of the municipality.

San Javier is located in the Bolivian lowlands in the Chiquitania region , a landscape between Santa Cruz and the Brazilian border that is still sparsely populated in large areas .

The region's climate is a semi-humid climate of the warm subtropics . The monthly average temperatures fluctuate only slightly over the course of the year between 21 ° C in the winter months from May to August with strong cold south winds, and up to 26 ° C in the other months. The annual average rainfall is more than 1000 mm, which falls mainly in the rainy season from November to March, while from May to October there is a distinct dry season .

structure

The municipality of San Javier was divided into the two cantons of San Javier and Santa Rosa de la Mina until the 1990s . The canton of Santa Rosa de la Mina is now an independent district as Municipio San Ramón .
