San Lorenzo is a municipality in the department of San Marcos in Guatemala . Around 9,000 people live in the 25 km² municipality, the majority of them in San Lorenzo, the rest in twelve smaller towns and hamlets.

San Lorenzo is located 23 km northeast of the departmental capital San Marcos and 275 km northwest of Guatemala City not far from the Tajumulco at an altitude of about 2,600 m. The climate in San Lorenzo is cold. The place can be reached from San Marcos via La Grandeza on an asphalt road.
economy
San Lorenzo is in a very fertile area, which is why agriculture is quite well developed. The place is important for tourism because one of the most important presidents of Guatemala, Justo Rufino Barrios Auyón , was born here. In his birthplace, now a national monument , there is a museum worth seeing.
history
San Lorenzo was founded by families who immigrated from Spain between 1690 and 1700 and was the administrative seat of the municipality of the same name in 1812 .
