San Lugano
San Lugano ( sometimes called St. Lukan in German texts ) is a village in South Tyrol ( Italy ). The mostly Italian-speaking fraction of the municipality of Truden is located on the San-Lugano-Sattel , which is a transition between the Adige Valley and the Fiemme Valley , in the immediate vicinity of the border between South Tyrol and Trentino . The village is accessed by the SS 48 , and until 1963 there was also a train station for the Fiemme Valley Railway .
history
San Lugano (named after Saint Lukan von Säben ) has always been part of the valley community of Fleims and formerly belonged to Carano politically and Castello ecclesiastically . In 1913 the village briefly received the status of an independent municipality. In 1926, the majority of the Italian-speaking village population decided in a referendum against rejoining Carano and for affiliation with the majority German-speaking community of Truden , which intervened unsuccessfully against its expansion. When the fascist administration set up the two provinces of Bolzano and Trento in 1927 , Truden was added to the province of Trento and Trentino. Since Truden was incorporated into the province of Bolzano in 1948, San Lugano has been in South Tyrol.
