San Miguel Island is an island that belongs to the archipelago of the California Channel Islands . It is the sixth largest of eight islands at 37.74 square kilometers and is located in Santa Barbara County .
San Miguel Island is thirteen kilometers long and up to six kilometers wide. From 1850 to 1948 ranchers brought sheep to the island, later the US Navy used the island. Today San Miguel is part of the Channel Islands National Park .
The American writer TC Boyle set his novel of the same name on the island ( San Miguel , 2012).
