The Church of San Roberto Bellarmino is a 1933 under Pope Pius XI. built Roman Catholic parish and titular church in Rome in the district of Parioli , which the in 16/17. Century living Robert Bellarmine is dedicated. He was canonized in 1930 and one year later was given the honorary title of Doctor of the Church . Until 2003 the church belonged to the Jesuit order .

Parish

At the beginning of the 1930s, around 15,000 parishioners lived in the parish, who were separated from the parishes of Santa Teresa al Corso d'Italia and Santa Maria del Popolo . With the formation of further parishes, the number of parishioners decreased, so that currently (2013) around 11,000 people belong to the parish.

Building

The planning of the church from 1931 to 1933 was the responsibility of the architect Clemente Busiri Vici . The construction of the church took over two decades, so the church was not consecrated until 1959. The high altar was donated by Beniamino Gigli .

The church is fitted into a pointed plot of land between Viale Romania and Via Panama, the southern end of which is a small parking lot. On the west side of the church there is an open-air sports facility, to the east are the rectory and other outbuildings, the main axis of the main nave and apse runs from south-south-west to north-north-east, the transept, each with a chapel, runs at right angles to it and ends in half an octagon . The chapel to the right of the apse, facing east, is dedicated to the Mother of God and the chapel opposite to the Sacred Heart .

organ

On the two bleachers there is an organ that was built in 1934 by the Tamburini organ building company. The instrument has 34 stops on two manual works and a pedal. The playing and stop actions are electric.
