Sand Sharks is an American horror film from 2011. The film was first released on March 30, 2012 in Germany.

action

An earthquake freed several prehistoric sharks from a submarine crater off the island of White Sands and headed for land. Meanwhile, preparations are underway on the island for the "Sandman Festival" during spring break , which is to be hosted by Jimmy Green, the mayor's son. In the run-up to the festival, a youngster disappears from the beach without a trace, only his severed head is found again. After several beach visitors fell victim to the animals, shark expert Sandy Powers found a large shark tooth, which she identified as the tooth of a young animal. The beach will then be closed so as not to expose festival visitors to the risk of a shark attack.

Jimmy Green, who really wants to host the festival, instructs his staff to get a large shark and presents it to the police as a supposed killer shark. However, Sandy Powers notices the dizziness and the beach remains closed. When there was a power outage during the night, everyone gathered on the beach to look for the cause. They discover that sharks can move through sand just as they can through water. One of Greens' henchmen tries to restore power and is eaten by a sand shark who is electrocuted in the process. Powers discovers that the sharks' skin has been altered to allow them to swim in the sand.

The police allow Green to hold the festival, believing the danger is over. Only Powers warns of more sand sharks, as the specimen killed was a juvenile. As the party started, the youngsters on the beach were attacked by several sand sharks, which were lured by the loud music. To destroy the sharks, Powers, Green, Sheriff John Stone and Angus McSorely, an old islander, decide to use loud music to lure the monsters to a secluded spot on the beach and kill them there. To do this, the sand in which the sharks swim is supposed to be melted into glass using napalm . When attracting the sharks, Green sacrifices himself, the attackers can be killed by the napalm. When Powers, Stone and McScorely examine the burned beach, they are attacked by another, even larger sand shark, McScorely is eaten in the process. Powers and Stone manage to destroy the shark with the rest of the napalm.

A little later, Green's intern Erin leaves a trailer on the festival site where she was hiding and is killed by another sand shark.

reception

“Fortunately, this movie cucumber doesn't take itself seriously, but that doesn't make it entertaining. Conclusion: material for the "shit, but great" group. "

- cinema.de

“Actually, the film by Mark Atkins has everything that belongs to a decent C-movie: underground bad dialogues, a dozen talentless actors, abstinence from all logic, completely joke-free one-liner and, last but not least, a script that is outrageous in every respect , which is also diligently copying from the genre role models. And exactly here the rabbit is in the pepper: Böte Sand Sharks at least one or the other unusual idea, the trash-loving viewer would get their money's worth (...) "

- Lars-Christian Daniels, negativ-film.de

“It is true that Mark Atkins’s film has to be admitted that the idea of having sharks hunted ashore has something creative about it. But “creative” does not necessarily mean “good”. Because this is where bad effects, a completely meaningless script and terribly acting actors come together to create a film that apparently has set itself the goal of finally making the myth created by Spielberg ridiculous.
