The Sandberg is an unforested mountain in the area of the town of Treffurt in the northwestern part of the Wartburg district . It forms a mountain spur tapering to the northeast, which begins at the Heldrastein near Schnellmannshausen and extends to the Werra valley at Treffurt.

The mountain is used for agriculture and consists of shell limestone and red sandstone, which only appears in a few places, it has a summit height of 287.5  m above sea level. HN and is part of the Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal Nature Park . The village of Reimannshausen was located on the northern slope near Treffurt until the 16th century. The desert had its own church and was near the mouth of the Schnellmannshausen brook . As part of the city fortifications of Treffurt, there was a Landwehr ditch south of Reimannshausen, the course of which can still be clearly seen in the steep slope area up to the Sandberg summit. Another section extended in an easterly direction to the Iberg and thus blocked the northern exit of the Schnellmanshausen valley.
