Sandro De Bernardin

Sandro De Bernardin (born August 20, 1949 in Venice ) is an Italian diplomat .

Education

On July 18, 1972, he graduated from the University of Padua with a degree in political science . From July 9, 1973 to January 8, 1974, he completed a scholarship to specialize in the European Economic Community at the “ Piero Sacerdoti ” insurance study center in Milan.

Career

On July 2, 1973, he joined the foreign service. From November 28, 1977 to 1980 he was legation secretary at the Permanent Mission to the OECD in Paris . From April 28, 1981 to 1984, he was first class secretary of the embassy in Kinshasa ( Zaire ). From July 16, 1985 to 1993 he was employed in Rome, where he was appointed First Class Counselor in 1990. From November 2, 1994 to 1998, he was First Class Counselor in Ottawa . From June 1, 2004 to September 17, 2008 he was Ambassador to Tel Aviv . From 2008 to 2010 he was Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (Italy) From 2010 to 2014 he headed the Political Department in Rome, i.e. was Director General. Since 2015 he has been head of the Italian delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance , which he took over from Benno Bättig (Switzerland) on March 6, 2018.
