Sandur ( Kannada : ಸಂಡೂರು Saṇḍūru , also Sanduru ) is a city in the Indian state of Karnataka with 37,000 inhabitants (2011 census).
Until 1949, Sandur was the capital of the princely state of Sandur .
It is located in the Bellary district in eastern central Carnataka. The city is located at an altitude of around 580 meters above sea level in an elongated valley that is enclosed on both sides by two parallel mountain ranges. Sandur is the capital of the Taluk of the same name (sub-district) in the Bellary district. The next largest cities are Hospet around 30 kilometers northwest and Bellary around 50 kilometers east.
The mountains in the vicinity of Sandur have rich iron ore deposits that are exploited in several mines. Ten kilometers south of Sandur is the Kumaraswamy Temple, which is dedicated to the Hindu god Subrahmanya .
