Sandvik is a village ( småort ) on the Swedish island of Öland in the Baltic Sea . The place belongs to the municipality of Borgholm and is located directly on Kalmarsund , on the west coast of the island.
Sandvik has a harbor which is also used as a fishing port and is the traditional center of Öland stonemasons . Limestone is mined north of the village . Another line of business is tourism. There are restaurants and retail outlets in Sandvik.
The town's landmark, visible from afar, is the Dutch windmill Sandviks Kvarn , which stands high above the harbor, and is the largest windmill in Northern Europe. South of Sandvik is the Knisa mosse bog, which has been declared a nature reserve . There is a small airfield to the east of the village.
