Gärdslösa is a town ( småort ) on the Swedish island of Öland in the Baltic Sea . The place belongs to the municipality of Borgholm .
Gärdslösa stretches as a street village in open construction along the country road that runs on the east side of the island.
The church of Gärdslösa in the village is noteworthy . It is the best-preserved medieval and one of the oldest churches on the island, with a number of rune stone fragments in the entrance area. There are four of the typical Öland windmills in and around the village .
Odens flisor (Odin's plates; the name is common in Sweden) are two more than 2.5 m high limestone plates that form the remainder of a prehistoric megalithic complex west of the village. The rune stones from Övra Bägby are located south of Gärdslösa.
The most famous son of the village is the Swedish poet Erik Johan Stagnelius, who was born in the rectory in 1793 . His father, Magnus Stagnelius , was Bishop of Kalmar from 1807 to 1829 .
