The Sankt-Johannis-Kirche is the Protestant church of the village Dobis in the municipality of Wettin-Löbejün in Saxony-Anhalt . It belongs to the parish Wettin in the parish of Halle-Saale district of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

Architecture and history

The church , built from rubble stones on a hill above the village, goes back to the Romanesque in its core and was expanded to the east around 1500. Renovations were carried out in the 18th century and in 1908. The church is single-nave and has a three-sided east end. On the polygon there are three small, late Gothic decorated arched curtain windows, the other church windows are elongated and rectangular. Above the west gable is a wooden tower tower with a transverse rectangular floor plan, which is covered by a tent roof. There is a porch on the south side. In addition, there is a two-part Romanesque tympanum in the southern wall . A walled-up gate from the late Gothic period can be seen in the north wall.

The interior of the church is spanned by a wooden barrel ceiling, which, however, is covered by a flat ceiling that was added later. Originally there was a horseshoe gallery , but only the western part has been preserved. The parish box and baptismal frame date from the 18th century. Much older is from the time coming in 1500 from sandstone made sacrament niche . It consists of a round-arched with trefoil provided ogee frame .

The church has three bells. The oldest and smallest bell probably dates back to the 13th century. It has a diameter of 44 centimeters and is not labeled. The middle bell dates from 1414. It has a diameter of 79 centimeters and bears the inscription Help Maria AD 1414 . On the largest bell is the inscription Dum trahor audita voco vos ad sacra veritra

In the churchyard that surrounds the church there are three gravestones from the Baroque period and two classicist tombs.

In the register of monuments of the municipality Wettin-Löbejün the church is registered under registration number 094 55073 as an architectural monument.
