It belongs to the Egeln parish of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

Architecture and history

The church was built around 1560 on the site of a previous medieval building when the Lords of Asseburg founded it . The church tower from the late 15th century was included. It is located on the south side of the ship. The spire of the tower was erected in its present form in 1727. It rests on a square, slate-clad attachment and is designed as a small, curved hood with a small, slender tip.

A portal with a framework frame leads into the tower . The church windows on the nave and in the choir are also made in late Gothic forms and are designed as curtain arches. The choir closes off polygonally and is provided with massive buttresses . A mansion box is added on the south side .

The interior of the church is covered with a flat wooden barrel ceiling. The apse has five sides and is separated from the elongated nave by a pressed arch . Inside the church there is a three-sided gallery , on the western side of which there is an organ . The font in the church was built in the second half of the 19th century.

The church's altar and pulpit are from the construction period. They are richly carved. The altar cheeks are decorated with masks, fittings and fruit hangings. The crowning is done by Christ Salvator . The twisted columns were added in the Baroque period . The altarpieces were created by Adam Offinger in 1575 . They show the Lord's Supper, crucifixion, and mercy seat . The sacrifice of Isaac and the brazen serpent are depicted in the cheeks of the altar . Evangelists can be seen at the pulpit, but Matthew is missing.

In the church there are several grave monuments of the von Asseburg family, such as the gravestones of Friedrich von der Asseburg, who died in 1583, and Clara von der Asseburg, who died in 1599, on the northern wall.

The manorial box is in the Renaissance style with an epitaph created in 1603 in the form of a triptych . Its design is reminiscent of an epitaph from the von der Asseburg family in Magdeburg Cathedral . In a carved frame in Schermcke there are three paintings, probably created by CD Fischer. On the left is Ludwig von der Asseburg, who died in 1633, with his sons, in the middle is the Last Judgment, and on the right is his wife Anna von Westfal, who died in 1623, with his daughters.

Four more tombstones are on the outside of the manor's box. These are the stones of Margarete von der Asseburg, who died in 1675, and Helene Maria von der Asseburg, who died in 1676. An oval writing field is surrounded by four coats of arms in the corners. The tombstone of Bengina, born Guntherin, who died in 1700, has a round writing field above the coat of arms held by angels. The fourth tombstone names Elisabeth Dorothea Watterin, who died in 1763.

In the local register of monuments , the church is registered as a monument under registration number 094 97520 .
