Sanneke van Hassel

Sanneke (Lidewij) van Hassel (born September 4, 1971 in Rotterdam ) is a Dutch theater scholar , cultural historian , actress and writer .

biography

Sanneke van Hassel studied theater studies and cultural history at the University of Utrecht . For ten years she was a member of the drama company 't Barre Land in Amsterdam .

She made her debut as a writer in 2005 with the book IJsregen , a collection of short stories and short stories , which was directly nominated for the Women and Culture Debut Prize (Vrouw en Kultuur debuut prijs) and the Selexyz Debut Prize (Selexyz Debuutprijs).

Van Hassel is a regular contributor to literary magazines and short stories. In the spring of 2006, she spent three weeks in Sarajevo on behalf of the Peace of Utrecht organization (Vrede van Utrecht) , after which she wrote the report Snippers Sarajevo , which was published in the journal Tirade .

In 2007, her second collection of short stories appeared Witte veder that on the long list of the Gouden Uil stood for Halewijnprijs and Novel Award was nominated. Sanneke van Hassel was awarded the BNG Nieuwe Literatuurprijs for both volumes of short stories .

Van Hassel's first novel Nest was published in 2010. In 2011 she wrote short monologues that could be heard in the Dutch pavilion at the Venice Biennale . She published her third collection of short stories, Ezels , in 2012. In the same year, the author also joined the editorial team of the literary magazine Terras . The following year she was awarded the Anna Blaman Prijs for her entire oeuvre to date . Here blijf ik kwam uit , her fourth volume of short stories, was published in 2014. It consists of 45 short stories inspired by 45 photos from the annual exhibition De Kracht van Rotterdam .

In addition to her writing activities, Sanneke van Hassel runs programs that focus on the short story. In 2010, the Hotel van Hassel took place over a weekend in Amsterdam's De Balie art and culture center , where various authors presented contemporary short stories. In collaboration with the Foundation for Literary Activities (Stichting Literaire Activiteiten Amsterdam), van Hassel presents evenings with readings of short stories.
