Sant'Arcangelo (also Sant'Arcangelo del Lago ) is a district ( fraction , Italian frazione ) of Magione in the province of Perugia , Umbria region in Italy .

geography

The place is 9 km southwest of the main town Magione and 20 km west of the provincial and regional capital Perugia on the southeastern part of Lake Trasimeno . The place is at 286  m slm and had 890 inhabitants in 2001. In the northeast the place borders on San Savino (approx. 4 km), in the southwest the place lies on the municipality of Panicale and in the southeast that of Perugia.

history

The name of the place is derived from the abbey of St. Archangel Michael, mentioned in the early 12th century, between the lake and the northern foothills of the Monte Marzolana mountain . Settlements arose below the abbey and in 1282 had about 90 to 100 inhabitants. Until the 15th century only the abbey and the Località Ancaelle (also La Frusta , mentioned in the 11th century) were known. After the emergence of of Braccio da Montone initiated channel to Entwässung of Lake Trasimeno in the early 15th century, the new settlements were established ( Vocabolo , in the majority Vocaboli called) Baldami , Bartocciami , Cenaioli , Ciaffolino , górami and Mafucci , now the Sant 'Form Arcangelo.

  • Badia di Sant'Arcangelo , abbey above the village, now privately owned.
  • San Michele Arcangelo , church in the town center (Via della Sapienza), completed in 1965. The laying of the foundation stone on July 14, 1963 took place with Raffaele Baratta , the then Archbishop of Perugia.
  • San Giovanni Battista , church in the town center (Via Baldami) from the 18th century.
  • Santa Maria (also Chiesa di Montevalle ), church by the lake just west of Sant'Arcangelo in the Località Montevalle . Was built in 1631 and was completely restored and rededicated in 1856. Another restoration took place from 1990 to 1995. One of the stones shows the date 1634, a kymation the inscription RAD 1830 .
  • Santa Maria di Ancaelle (also Santa Maria d'Ancaelle or Santa Maria de Ancaelle ), Pieve in the Località La Frusta approx. 2 km east of the village, which was mentioned in the 11th century. Contains frescoes from the late 13th century.
