Location of Sardara in the Medio Campidano

Santa Anastasia in Sardara , located near the late Gothic church of Santa Anastasia, is one of the most important fountain sanctuaries ( Italian Pozzo sacro ) on Sardinia . Sardara is located near the SS131 in the province of Sud Sardegna on the eastern edge of the Campidano . The water comes from the nearby small source Sa Mitzixedda.

In 1913 Antonio Taramelli uncovered a well temple built from roughly hewn limestone blocks. A 12-step staircase leads to an intact tholos-like paved room 4 m in diameter and around 5 m high. A large number of ceramics from the 9th and 8th centuries BC were found in another small conical well shaft. In the geometric style.

Excavations carried out between 1980 and 2000 suggest, however, that the second well dates from the 13th or 12th century BC. Is to be dated. Ornate limestone and trachyte blocks , which were initially ascribed to this fountain temple, seem to belong to a third fountain discovered on the boundary wall. A large, finely crafted sandstone altar in the shape of a nuraghe , seven lead ingots and three hemispherical Cypriot bronze basins 40 cm in diameter (one with lotus flowers on the handles) were found here. Whether the basins from late Mycenaean Cyprus of the 11th century BC Or from Phoenician Cyprus of the 9th and 8th centuries BC. Were imported is controversial.

Hut bases were found in the surrounding area, which were probably part of a settlement, but which is located under the houses and streets of the village. In a hut, near the threshold, a ceramic container was found in which numerous copper bars in "ox skin shape", which are known in the Mediterranean region, were found.

Sardara is mainly known in Sardinia for the thermal springs "Terme di Sardara" (the Roman Acqitae Neapolitanae, near Ptolemy).
