Santa Maria de Lamas is a Portuguese municipality ( freguesia ) with 5073 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011) in the district ( concelho ) of Santa Maria da Feira .

history

In the city charter (Foral) of 1514, which King Manuel I granted the town of Santa Maria da Feira , the independent community Lama was also named, which later received the name Lamas da Feira . On August 19, 1952, the parish was renamed Santa Maria de Lamas . On September 25, 1985, the place received the status of a Vila ("small town").

Attractions

The former Dispensário da Assistência Nacional aos Tuberculosos de Santa Maria de Lamas , a facility for lung patients, is a listed building, as is the parish church of Santa Maria de Lamas from the early 20th century.

There is also a cork museum with a large collection that was founded by the industrialist Henrique Amori († 1977).

Sports

The place is home to the sports club União Lamas , which is particularly known for its football team.
