Lourosa is a parish and city in the district of Santa Maria da Feira in the Aveiro district . The place belongs to the sub-region Entre Douro e Vouga in the Portuguese region of Norte . The community has an area of ​​5.8 km² and 8,636 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).

The name Lourosa

According to legend, the name is made up of the word "Louro" ( Portuguese for laurel ), which was often found there, and the name of a pretty girl "Rosa" who lived there. Over the years, Lourosa developed from this . Another source of the name is also seen in the term laurel; here in the root of the laurel tree O Laureiro , which in turn is written in Roman Latin Laurus and thus became Lourosa .

history

The place was mentioned for the first time in 1009, and thus formed a previous, separate Condado Portucalense ( German Portuguese county ) in the years 1095/1096 before the founding of the Kingdom of Portugal in 1128 . The previous Aldeia was elevated to Vila ( small town ) on September 25, 1985 and Cidade ( town ) on April 19, 2001 .
