Santa Maria de Souto is a place and a former municipality ( freguesia ) in northern Portugal .
Santa Maria de Souto is part of the Guimarães district in the Braga district . The community had an area of 4.4 km² and 771 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).
On September 29, 2013, the municipalities of Souto (Santa Maria), Gondomar and Souto (São Salvador) merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Souto Santa Maria, Souto São Salvador e Gondomar .
