Paloniemi was a talented ice hockey player in his youth , but at the age of 14 he finally decided on his second passion, skiing. He contested the first FIS races in November 2008 as a 15-year-old. In February 2009 he took part in the European Youth Olympic Festival in Szczyrk . The first victory in an FIS race he achieved in January 2010 in Rovaniemi . On November 14, 2010, it was used for the first time in a World Cup race in Levi and achieved 44th place. His debut in the European Cup was three weeks later in Åre .
At the Junior World Championships 2011 in Crans-Montana , Paloniemi finished fifth in the slalom. Shortly thereafter, he participated in the 2011 World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , where he was eliminated in the first run of the slalom. After his first podium in a European Cup race, he won the gold medal in slalom at the Junior World Championships in Roccaraso in 2012 . This meant that Paloniemi was entitled to start at the World Cup final in Schladming , where he finished 17th in the slalom. At the World Cup finals, however, there are only 15 World Cup points for the best, which is why he was left empty-handed. At the end of the season he won his first Finnish slalom championship.
Paloniemi won his first World Cup points on November 11, 2012 with 24th place in the Levi slalom. At the Junior World Championships in 2013 he received the bronze medal in slalom. His best World Cup result so far is 21st place in the Kranjska Gora slalom on March 10, 2013.
