Santiago "Santi" García (born July 8, 1988 in Rosario , Santa Fe Province ) is an Argentine football player on the position of a left full-back. He is also an Italian citizen.
Career
García began his footballing career at the Rosario Central club based in his hometown . After playing there for the first half of 2010, he joined US Palermo in Italy. In the Sicilians, however, he could not prevail and spent the 2011/12 season on loan from league competitor Novara Calcio . After problems with the fans, García terminated his contract early in 2013. He was then signed by the Chilean club Rangers de Talca and loaned to the German first division club Werder Bremen for a year with a purchase option . On September 21, 2013 (6th matchday), the left-back made his competitive debut for Werder Bremen in a 2-0 away win against Hamburger SV . On November 3, 2013 (11th matchday) he scored his first goal for SV Werder in the home game against Hannover 96 with a 3-2 final score in the 86th minute. On February 1, 2014 (19th matchday), he received his first yellow-red card in the Bundesliga in the away game at FC Augsburg . On April 30, 2014, SV Werder Bremen made use of a purchase option; García signed a three-year contract until June 30, 2017. In 2017 it was announced that Garcia will not renew his contract with Werder Bremen. He moved to the Mexican club Deportivo Toluca on a free transfer . On January 15, 2020, he moved to Unión La Calera in the Chilean Primera División for free .
Private
García's twin brother Manuel is also a soccer player. He is under contract with the Club de Deportes Antofagasta . Santiago has been married to field hockey player Carla Arpi since June 4, 2016.
