Santiago García Echevarría

Santiago García Echevarría (* 1935 ) is a Spanish manager and economist .

Life

García Echevarría studied from 1951 to 1956 at the Escuela de Altos Estudios Mercantiles in Bilbao . He then worked for General Electric in Spain. From 1959 to 1963 he studied economics with a scholarship at the University of Cologne and at the University of Valladolid . In 1962 he received his doctorate in Cologne with the dissertation Economic Development Spain and European Integration . He then went to the Banco de Bilbao and worked for the Unión Española de Explosivos. From 1963 to 1967 he was a professor at the Universidad de Deusto . In 1969 he received a second doctorate from the Complutense University of Madrid and taught there. From 1971 to 1972 he was CEO of Demag Equipos Industriales in Madrid. From 1972 to 1975 he worked for the Comisión de Productos Químicos y sus Minerales, Abonos y Papel. In 1973 he became a professor at the University of Barcelona and at the National Distance University . From 1974 to 1980 he was a member of the German Chamber of Commerce in Madrid and Barcelona. In 1975 he was a member of the founding committee of the Universidad de Alcalá , whose business faculty he helped set up and taught economic policy as a professor . He also initiated an MBA program and was director of the Instituto de Dirección y Organización de Empresa there. In 1987 he became a board member of the European Center for Strategic Management of Universities. From 1990 to 1993 he was President of the Asociación Científica de Economía y Dirección de la Empresa. In 1990 he founded the International Federation of Scholarly Associations of Management and chaired it from 1997 to 1999. In 1997 he became a member of the Privatization Council Spain. From 2001 to 2008 he was President of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Spain (from 2008 liaison scientist). In 2007 he retired. García Echevarría is a member of u. a. American Economic Association , Schmalenbach Society for Business Administration , Association of University Lecturers for Business Administration and Association for Social Policy . He was co-editor of u. a. Journal of Business Economics and Management International Review .
