Santiago Segura Silva (born July 17, 1965 in Madrid ) is a Spanish actor, director, producer and screenwriter, who is best known in his home country for his torrente tetralogy, and abroad for his roles in the films of Álex de la Iglesia .

biography

Childhood and youth

Santiago Segura Silva was in the district of Carabanchel in Madrid born. At the age of 14 he bought an 8mm camera at a flea market, with which he began to shoot three-minute short films that were set in his neighborhood. He filmed his 8 mm works in chronological order because he did not have the ability to edit.

With his first longer work Relatos de la Medianoche he took 100,000 pts in the youth cinema of Valencia . a. With a total budget of 7000 pts. he realized that cinema could be a profitable business.

Career

He has now shot his first three short films on 35mm film, which have been released on VHS together with some 8mm works. To finance the 35mm works, he took part in a large number of television shows, such as No te rías que es peor or Locos por la tele , worked as a waiter and sold books on doorsteps while studying art. During this time he also devoted himself to comics and, together with his friend Jose Antonio Calvo, created the series Pequeñas Viciosas for the magazine El Vibora .

He took part in many film festivals and got to know Álex de la Iglesia , among others . It was through him that he got his role in Acción Mutante (1992). He played several small roles in other films and got his first major role again from Álex de la Iglesia; the seller in a death metal record shop José María in El día de la bestia . For the role he received the Spanish Goya film award in 1996 .

From this role on, his fame in Spain increased from role to role until he created the most successful film at the Spanish box office to date with his own feature film Torrente - The stupid arm of the law . In addition, he again won the Goya 1999 for best director. After Torrente 2 , Segura got his first roles in big-budget Hollywood productions ( Blade II and Hellboy ) from his friend Guillermo del Toro .
