Santogold is the debut album by Santigold (actually Santi White, then still active under the stage name Santogold) , released in 2008 . The musical spectrum of the album is very wide - it ranges from hip-hop to electronic to rock . In addition, the album contains elements of pop and dub .

Recording and production

Santogold was in three different studios in New York City added ; the Schoolhouse, Pitch Black and Downtown Studios. The album was recorded by the following musicians :

Santogold was released in 2008 by the Lizard King Records and Downtown Music labels - it was released on CD and LP .

Cover and artwork

On the cover of Santogold you can see the blurred and underexposed photograph of a woman - presumably Santi White - from whose mouth a gold glittering cloud pours out. This artwork was picked up at an early pressing of the LP (LIZARD111V); it appeared as a transparent vinyl with mica inclusions.

Charts and reception

Santogold reached number 74 as the highest position on Billboard's album charts .

The reviews of Santogold were mostly positive. The music database Allmusic lists the album with four out of five possible stars. The music critic Robert Christgau awarded his third-best rating; A -. In the magazine Entertainment Weekly "The album is not flawless, but in an era of retro rock and watered-pop feel: was read Santogold rough and true to." And the music magazine New Musical Express , was that the album a " strange cobblestone path into the musical future ”.

Trivia

Santi White wrote in the liner notes of Santogold following dedication: "This record is for my dad, who once told me that the world is not yet ready for the sounds in my head. Has enough time passed now? "
