Saori Obata ( Japanese 小 畑 沙織 , Obata Saori ; born April 23, 1978 in Hokkaidō ) is a former Japanese tennis player .

Career

Obata attended Fujimigaoka High School in Shibuya , which has won the girls' national school tennis championships several times.

Your best performance in a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the third round; this she succeeded in singles in 2003 at the US Open and in 2004 at the Australian Open .

Between 1999 and 2005 she played 17 games (12 wins) for the Japanese Fed Cup team . She also represented Japan at the 2004 Olympics in singles and doubles .

On June 1, 2006, Saori Obata announced her retirement from professional sports due to a knee injury.
