Sarkin Yamma is a rural municipality in the department Madarounfa in Niger . Alternative spellings are Sarki Yama , Serkin Yama , Serkin Yamma and Serki Yama .

geography

Sarkin Yamma is located in the greater Sudan landscape . The neighboring communities are Tibiri in the northwest, Maradi in the east and Safo in the south. The municipality is divided into 26 administrative villages, 29 hamlets and eight camps. The main town of the rural community is Sarkin Yamma, consisting of the administrative villages of Serkin Yama Saboua and Serkin Yamma Sofoua.

The average annual rainfall in Sarkin Yamma is 487 millimeters, the number of rainy days in the year an average of 34 (measurement period 1995-2006).

history

The French colonial administration established a canton in Sarkin Yamma in 1944 . In 2002, as part of a nationwide administrative reform, the canton of Sarkin Yamma became the rural community of Sarkin Yamma.

At the 2001 census, Sarkin Yamma had 24,970 residents. At the 2012 census, the population was 36,557.
