She had her first stage appearance in 1963. She was supposed to be trained as an opera singer, but an almond operation permanently changed her voice. Sarolta Zalatnay was the singer of the famous Hungarian band Bergendy in 1964/65 . In 1967 she won the competition with the song Nem várok holnapig (I won't wait until tomorrow), which was accompanied by the Hungarian band Omega . In 1968 and 1969 she lived temporarily in Paris and London , where she met numerous Western musicians. In 1968 and 1969 she took part in the Táncdalfesztivál without receiving a prize. In 1971 she won first prize again with Fák, virágok, fény (trees, flowers, light). She then played together with the Locomotiv GT until 1973 , before being accompanied by the band Skorpió .

Zalatnay played in numerous Hungarian films, for example a leading role in Fuss, hogy utolérjenek . It contains English-language songs, mostly cover versions, including Move Over by Janis Joplin .

Zalatnay played with numerous well-known musicians, including the Bee Gees , Eric Clapton , the Beach Boys and Lionel Richie .

In addition to her activities as a singer and actress, she wrote eleven books, including the 1985 autobiography Nem vagyok én apáca (I am not a nun). It sold over a million copies, making it one of the most commercially successful in Hungarian book bestseller lists.

In 1974 she married Sándor Révész, the singer of the Hungarian band Piramis . They later divorced and in 1987 she married László Benedek. In 1989 their daughter Nikolett Benedek, called Nixi, was born. In 1991 she became a member of the board of directors of the Boldogság Párt (about: Lucky Party). In 1995 she became chairwoman of the Magyar Állatvédő és Természetbarát Szövetségnek (Hungarian Animal and Nature Protection Association). Her third husband was the porn film director Csaba Márton from 1995 . In 2001 she had herself photographed for Playboy , which then achieved record circulation in Hungary. Her husband pushed her to found the Hungarian television channel CiNN TV , which ran into financial difficulties. In 2004 Sarolta Zalatnay was sentenced to three years imprisonment for tax fraud and the marriage was divorced. Zalatnay was 2006 probation dismissed. Since then she has been giving concerts again.
