Locomotiv GT ( LGT for short ) was a Hungarian rock band. It existed from 1971 to 1992. In 1997 it was re-convened by Gábor Presser and existed from then until the deaths of Tamás Somló and József Laux in 2016.
history
Locomotiv GT was founded on April 6, 1971 in Budapest by former members of the band Omega , keyboardist and singer Gábor Presser and drummer József Laux. Károly Frenreisz joined the band Metro as bass guitarist and guitarist Tamás Barta previously played for Hungaria . The fifth, unofficial founding member was the lawyer and wife of Laux, Anna Adamis, who wrote the lyrics for the band. The compositions came mainly from Presser.
In December 1971 her debut album was released on the Hungarian label Pepita . In the same year the band took part in the World Popular Song Festival in Tokyo and a year later in the Great Western Express Festival in Lincoln . In 1973 Frenreisz left the band and formed the band Skorpio . Tamás Somló came for him. In 1974 the band undertook a longer tour through North America and performed together with American bands such as ZZ Top , Lynyrd Skynyrd , Chicago , Aerosmith and the Eagles . Further tours abroad in Europe, especially Eastern Europe, followed. Locomotiv GT achieved far greater successes abroad than at home. The band released several LPs in English, including with Jack Bruce . In the GDR , the band was best known for the music for the musical Fictional Report about an American pop festival by Tibor Déry . The Hungarian LP for the piece, recorded in 1973 with actors from the Budapest Comedy , sold 50,000 copies. In the GDR, the musical was staged for the first time in February 1976 at the Meininger Theater with the Meiningen rock band "Pli". The musical was also staged in Leipzig in a production by Karl Georg Kayser , rearranged by Thomas Bürkholz and performed musically by the Leipzig band SET in 1977 at the Schauspielhaus. Already at the beginning of the 1970s the titles Geh nie wieder , Eine Kuckucksarmbanduhr , Help me to fall asleep and I'm waiting for you somewhere with German texts by Kurt Demmler were published by Amiga .
There was another line-up in the band in 1974 when Barta left. János Karácsony from General came for him . Laux left the band in 1976 and was replaced by János Solti. In 1992 the band broke up, in 1997 it was re-founded by Presser. With the line-up, the band increasingly oriented itself towards jazz rock, but never lost its typical sound, which was characterized by Presser's concise blues voice and the virtuosity of all band members. After the death of the members Tamás Somló and József Laux, the final breakup of the band was announced in September 2016.
