Saskia Laroo (born July 31, 1959 in Amsterdam ) is a Dutch jazz trumpeter.

Live and act

Laroo started playing the trumpet when she was eight . After briefly studying mathematics in Amsterdam, she worked in various Dixieland and mainstream bands from 1979 , playing mainly the double bass before returning to the trumpet. Since 1981 she has been part of Hans Dulfer's band and the Rosa King's Upside-Down Band , in which Candy Dulfer also played. In the next few years she concentrated on Latin Jazz and Salsa : in 1982 she founded her own Salsa Caliente Band , between 1986 and 1990 she directed the Caribbean Express , and then performed with the Caribbean Colors until 1994 . She has performed with her Saskia Laroo Band since 1994 and presents the repertoire of albums that highlight different aspects of her work: For example, on her second album “Bodymusic” she presented Nu Jazz , while her third album “Jazzkia” was a tribute to Miles Davis . In the years that followed, Laroo worked on new mixes of styles, which were defined as swinging body music . She also plays Straight Ahead Jazz with Jazzkia . She presented her music internationally at important jazz festivals such as the Atlanta Jazz Festival, the Burghausen International Jazz Week , the Hamra Festival (Lebanon), Java Jazz Festival (Indonesia), Montreux Jazz Festival , North Sea Jazz Festival , Paramaribo Jazz Festival, Sunset Festival ( Japan), Women in Jazz (Halle) or the Yatra Jazz Festival (India).
