The Sault Ste. Marie Thunderbirds were a Canadian ice hockey franchise of the Eastern Professional Hockey League from Sault Ste. Marie , Ontario .

history

The Sault Ste. Marie Thunderbirds were founded in 1959 as a franchise of the Eastern Professional Hockey League , which was held for the first time . Their best season was the 1960/61 season , in which they got 73 points under long-time NHL player Billy Reay and reached third place in the EPHL.

Following the 1961/62 season , in which the Thunderbirds, with their long-time NHL player Jack Stewart as coach, took sixth and last place in the EPHL, the team was relocated to Syracuse , New York , and changed its name to Syracuse Braves .
