Scalpture is a German death metal band from Bielefeld .

history

The band was founded in 2009 by the singer Thorsten Pieper and the guitarist Felix Marbach. The bassist Anselm Heise joined later and brought the drummer Max Caillourd with him through his vocational school . The band name has no special meaning. It should just sound "kind of big and brutal" and be recognizable. Just a year later, the band released their first demo, Born into Battle . It was not until five years later that the self-published EP Border Crossing appeared , which was recorded by the band themselves and mixed and mastered by Jörg Uken . In the summer of 2015, Scalpture played at the Out and Loud festival .

With Tobias Aselmann, the band brought a second guitarist into the band, which released their debut album Panzerdoktrin on December 1, 2016 via Final Gate Records . Drummer Max Caillourd left the band and was replaced by Moritz Menke. Bassist Anselm Heise died a year later. A successor was only found in 2019 in Niklas Neuwöhner. The second studio album Eisenzeit was recorded together in Hellforge Studio and was released on February 21, 2020 via FDA Records . The album was mastered by Darkane singer Lawrence Mackrory. Thorsten Pieper described the Iron Age as a concept album about the First World War .

style

Scalpture play Death Metal and are often compared by the press with bands like Bolt Thrower , Asphyx or Hail of Bullets . Many texts deal with the subject of war . Singer Thorsten Pieper explained that the war "has a lasting impact on entire societies like almost nothing else". He draws inspiration for his texts from specialist literature that he uses in his history studies , but also from novels like In the West Nothing New by Erich Maria Remarque , reports from contemporary witnesses, documentaries and films.
