Scarlet was a British band from Hull , Yorkshire , England .

Band history

The band consisted of Cheryl Parker (vocals, guitar) and Jo Youle (piano, keyboard, vocals). Originally, Joanna Fox was the third member , but she left the band before it became a success.

The remaining duo released their debut album Naked in 1995 and the title Independent Love Song contained on it became the band's biggest hit, stylistically categorized between Shakespear's Sister and Letters to Cleo . A special feature was that Parker and Youle wrote all the songs on the album themselves. The second single I Wanna Be Free (To Be With Him) was only a minor success in Great Britain.

In 1996 Scarlet released another album, which, like the singles from it, flopped completely. Their record company WEA Records dropped the group and the members went different ways.

Independent Love Song appeared in 1996 on the soundtrack of the US film drama Bed of Roses and in 1997, a cover version also became a commercial success for the German punk band The Bates .
