The 1998/99 season was the sixth regular staging of the Czech extra league . In the play-off final, last year's winner HC Slovnaft Vsetín prevailed 3-0 against HC ZPS Barum Zlín and won their fifth title in a row. In the first division of the Czech Republic , HC Znojemští Orli won the play-off final and met HC Dukla Jihlava in the relegation . The relegation ended with the rise of the team from Znojmo and the relegation of the old master HC Dukla Jihlava.

mode

In 52 games, all teams play two complete double rounds, so each team has 26 home and away games. The teams in places 1 to 8 qualify directly for the play-offs, which are played in the best-of-five mode . For the teams in places 9 to 13, the season ends after the main round. At the end of the season, in addition to the playoffs, there will be a relegation, in which the last placed team of the Extraliga and the winner of the play-off final of the 1st division take part. In the best-of-seven mode with a maximum of seven games per team, the promoted to the extra league or relegated to the first division is determined.

The team of HC Slovnaft Vsetín, which had won the Czech championship in the four previous years, prevailed against HC ZPS Barum Zlín with 3-0 and won the fifth title in the club's history. The semi-final between Vsetín and HC Sparta Prague was mainly influenced by the duel between the two top goalkeepers, Roman Čechmánek ( GTS of 1.8; Sv of 92.9%) and Milan Hnilička (GTS of 1.5; Sv of 95.6% ), certainly. After Vsetín narrowly prevailed against Sparta Prague in the semifinals, the final was a run-through by the Czech serial champions.
