Schönbach (locally also Schimsch ) is a district of the city of Sebnitz in the district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains with approx. 275 inhabitants.

Schönbach is about 1 km long and an average of 150 m wide. It stretches along the Schönbach brook , which flows into the Sebnitz (river) in Hainersdorf . Neighboring towns are the westernmost and Neustadt in Sachsen belonging Krumhermsdorf , the south to Hainersdorf and adjacent to the east city of Sebnitz.

Schönbach was originally an independent village. On December 1, 1935, it was incorporated into the city of Sebnitz.

For financial reasons, there was unusually no church and no pastor in Schönbach until the incorporation. Services were always held in simple houses. Then came the pastor from Krumhermsdorf. To this day there is no church in town.

In the village there is the volunteer fire brigade with a fire engine and the Schönbach youth fire brigade with a dozen children and young people who practice several times a year.

traffic

A country road (Martin-May-Straße) crosses the whole place, otherwise there are only a few small streets. A regional bus of the RVSOE line 267 runs daily between Sebnitz and Neustadt in Saxony (2 stops in one direction). The regional train , which passes 300 m to the north, stops on the route between Neustadt in Saxony and Sebnitz in Krumhermsdorf.
