Schönebeck-Elmener tram

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Schönebeck-Elmener tram connected the cities of Schönebeck (Elbe) and Groß Salze (now Bad Salzelmen ) in the former Calbe district of the Prussian province of Saxony.

history

Schönebeck-Elmener Straßenbahn AG was founded in 1886 and on May 28 of the same year opened a 2.6 km long horse-drawn tram from Schönebeck station to the small town of Groß Salze, which then had 9,000 inhabitants.

The route began on the south side of the Schönebeck state train station and led over Friedrichstrasse in a south-westerly direction to Großsalze, crossed the town and ended at the Elmen spa gardens.

During the First World War, operations had to be closed in 1917 for economic reasons. On June 14, 1919, the company went bankrupt. The tracks were dismantled in the summer of 1920.

The electric suburban line of the Magdeburger Verkehrsbetriebe , which ran between Magdeburg and Schönebeck from 1926 to 1969, ended on the north side of the station. So there was neither a temporal overlap nor a rail connection between the two services.

Today the S-Bahn connects Mittelelbe Bad Salzelmen and Schönebeck station via the Schönebeck – Güsten railway line .
