The small electric railway in Mansfeld was an electrically operated 1000 mm small railway in the Mansfeld mining district , which belonged to the small electric railway in the Mansfeld mountain district AG . During the short operating time, the company Kramer & Co. in Berlin initially ran the business. From January 1, 1901, this task was taken over by Allgemeine Deutsche Kleinbahn AG and, from January 1, 1920, by the Saxony-Anhalt electricity company .

history

As early as 1896 there were first efforts to build a railway , on June 27, 1898 the electric small railway in the Mansfelder Bergrevier AG received the concession for a narrow-gauge electrified small railway from Hettstedt to Eisleben . After construction work began at the end of 1898 with a capital of 4.5 million marks , the small railway was gradually able to start passenger traffic between April 10 and October 7, 1900 (freight traffic was only approved in October 1906).

As a result of the First World War , the city route to the Eisleben cemetery was closed in August 1914, followed by the Eisleben Plan – Eisleben station section in June 1916. As the war progressed, traffic later had to be further restricted. In 1919 the second class was canceled without replacement.

On January 1, 1920, the Provincial Association of Saxony-Anhalt took over the small railroad and commissioned Elektrizitätswerk Sachsen-Anhalt AG (ESAG) with the management. This company now dissolved the unprofitable railway operations, in 1922 there were debts of approx. 4 million marks from the profitable power station and on December 2, 1922, the remaining main line was shut down. Initially, a Lauterwald omnibus line was set up as a replacement, and in 1929 Kraftverkehr Mansfeld GmbH took over the omnibus traffic along the small railway. Although there were again various attempts to reactivate the railway, ESAG u. a. In 1928 the concession was converted into an intercity tram , but no result could be achieved by July 1929, the latest date for resumption of operation, so the concession expired.

In Eisleben and Mansfeld, catenary masts and memorial plaques remind of the small train.
