In the 2007/08 season of the Swiss Bundesliga in chess , Valais and the defending champion chess club Birsfelden / Beider Basel fought head-to-head for the title. Before the last round, Valais was still half a board point ahead, but because they could n't get more than 4: 4 against SV Wollishofen , while Birsfelden / Beider Basel beat Nimzowitsch Zurich , Birsfelden / Beider Basel won their fourth title in a row. Lugano CS was promoted from the 2nd Bundesliga and achieved relegation. In purely sporting terms, Nimzowitsch Zurich would have been relegated bottom of the table, but since NN Bern withdrew its team, Nimzowitsch Zurich still managed to stay in the league. The promotion match between the two winners of the second division relay , Schachclub Niederrohrdorf and Bianco Nero Lugano, took place on May 31 in Niederrohrdorf . Niederrohrdorf won 4½: 3½ and was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga.
