The Shagan ( Kazakh Шаған , Russian Шаган ) is a left tributary of the Irtysh in Kazakhstan .

The Shagan rises on the edge of the Kazakh threshold . It flows in a predominantly northerly direction and flows into the Irtysh 50 km west of Semei .

The Schagan has a length of 295 km. Its catchment area covers 25,400 km². The mean discharge is 1.02 m³ / s. The river is mainly fed by the snowmelt . In the months of May and June, the Shagan usually leads to high water in the upper reaches . In contrast, the Schagan often falls dry near the mouth. The river is ice-covered between November and mid-April. The most important tributary of the Shagan is the Ashchissu from the right.
