Georg Schauf

Georg "Schorschi" Schauf (born May 18, 1970 ) is a German canoeist . The extreme kayaker and expedition kayaker became known beyond the canoe scene through his trips to the Rhine Falls in 1997 and 2003, which earned him an entry in the Guinness Book of Records . Born in Rheinhesse, he began his career as a canoeist at the age of 15, initially as a hiking paddler on the Rhine and soon afterwards on his first white water excursions .

In civil life, Schorschi completed an apprenticeship as an electronics technician , but is currently active as a sponsored canoeist and operator of a kayak school and provider of outdoor trips. On December 29, 2010, Schorschi and Barbara Schauf married, the ceremony was carried out by the second mayor of Regen and paddling colleague Robert Sommer .

Canoe career

At the age of 18, Schorschi became the youngest member of the Alpine Kayak Club , and at 34 he was elected President of the AKC.

From 1990 to 2000 Schorschi was a member of the German National Kayak Rodeo Team . His greatest success was the second place in the OC1 (single seat open Canadier) in the pre-world championship in 1999 in New Zealand. In 2000, Schorschi reached the 2nd place in the OC1 and 3rd place in the K1 (single-seat kayak) at the German Kayak Rodeo Championships .

Schorschi became known in canoe circles and in some cases also through extreme trips. On January 12, 1997, he managed to drive over the Rhine Falls near Schaffhausen on the southern route with a fall height of 23.7 m, which secured him an entry in the Guinness Book of Records . In the extremely dry summer of 2003, he and Frank Preuss repeated the drive at the lowest water level, this time on the northern route with a fall height of 24 m.

He also took part in kayak expeditions on particularly challenging, in some cases still undeveloped, rivers around the world. Including 2001 in Honduras , 2002 the first ascent of the Deferegger Gorge in East Tyrol , 2004 the Caucasus expedition with the first ascent of the Msymta , and 2005 the Peru expedition with the first ascent of the "holy river" Rio Vilcabamba . Schorschi is sponsored by Red Bull .

In the canoe scene, Schorschi is legendary for his appearances at paddle parties and for the double bobble hat he designed.
