The Schefflenzgäu is a part of the natural area of building land in the northeast of Baden-Württemberg , in whose area the Schefflenz river , a right tributary of the Jagst , is located. The Schefflenzgäu , as natural spatial unit No. 128.3 of the main unit group Neckar- and Tauber-Gäuplatten, has no further subdivision unit in the second decimal place. The Schefflenzgäu is characterized by gentle swellings and wide hollows with upward and downward sloping plateaus over the main shell limestone, on the northern edge of which also over corrugated limestone with individual deeper valleys. On the heights there are dry valleys and sometimes sinkholes. The Schefflenzgäu is mainly used for arable farming. The soils are partly very uneven, partly deep, partly with loess blankets, but also shallow with heavy rock soils as well as warm and stony rendzina soils of the marl or limestone ridges. The smaller valleys in the Upper Muschelkalk are narrow like gorges, while those in the Lower Muschelkalk have broad valleys from which several springs emerge. Steep shell limestone banks spread out on the slopes, on the slopes of which there are ledges of rock, dry grass, shrubbery and stone bars .
