Scheitan (from Arabic الشيطان , aš-Šaiṭān for devil ) was a Swedish band that was founded in 1996 by Pierre Törnkvist and Oskar Karlsson in Luleå .

history

In 1996 the two musicians Pierre Törnkvist and Oskar Karlsson (ex- Gates of Ishtar ) decided to found the Scheitan project. Together they began to record their first song and send it to various record labels. After signing a contract with the German label Invasion Records , the debut album Traveling in Ancient Times was released that same year .

With Berzerk 2000 , the band's second album was released in 1998 under Invasion Records. After Invasion Records was disbanded shortly thereafter, the band moved to Century Media , where they released their third and final album, Nemesis . For this, Oskar and Pierre got support from the singer Lotta Högberg and keyboardist Göran Norman. It was also noticeable that the pentagram , which was to be found on the first two albums, was missing on the cover of Nemesis .

In 2000 the band broke up. Oskar Karlsson and Pierre Törnkvist later founded the death 'n' roll band Helltrain .

style

Michael Rensen from Rock Hard counted Scheitan “among those bands that stylistically always sat between stools or were quite unpredictable”. The first album in particular was based on Black Metal . The typical high head voice, harder and faster passages were complemented by a rather calm basic drum rhythm and spoken vocals. The successor Berzerk 2000 provides loud Rensen an "exciting frontier Sprenger" represent "the great, always something knarzige melodic death -Hymnen naturally next unpeinlichen Gothrock -Bombast pretty weggetretene soundscape -Trips and knüppelige THD-and-keif Black Metal - Frenzies presented ". The album Nemesis, on the other hand, contained more rock elements and was based in Gothic Metal and Death 'n' Roll in the style of Sentenced , Entombed and Blackshine , and the music was compared with AC / DC and the vocals with Mille Petrozzas . Rensen described the music as "very rocky Goth'n'Roll".
