Shards is the fifth and final studio album by the rock band Ton Steine Shards .

Emergence

For the tour to the "Blacks" in '81 / '82, the shards were rearranged. Rio Reiser was to concentrate solely on singing, for which two other musicians were wanted. They decided on keyboardist Martin Paul and guitarist Marius del Mestre. After the financially disastrous (but musically successful) tour directed by Elser Maxwell, Claudia Roth and Misha Schoeneberg came to Fresenhagen to organize the 1982 summer tour. Schoeneberg, who had already worked as a driver on the winter tour, also designed the stage lights. Marius del Mestre turned out to be overzealous and not up to his role as a youngster. With a lot of Jägermeister and sayings like “Hey, that's rock'n'roll, dude”, he mixed up the always very serious studio work of the broken pieces. He ignored warnings, so that Rio Reiser fired him after a unanimous group decision of all shards (with one abstention) with his saying “Hey, that's rock'n'roll, dude”. The whole cast (including Claudia Roth and Misha Schoeneberg) contributed ideas for songs and lyrics to the new record. The final title selection was decided after a secret ballot. RPS Lanrue played his guitar licks alone. Musically, the album breaks with the depth and joy of experimentation of the "blacks", it is again earthier and clearer, and flirted with the mainstream of those days.

useful information

  • Ardistan is the title that was named after a novel by Karl May . It is also Dirk Schlömers (later guitarist) favorite song from Ton Steine Scherben.
  • At Hannes Eyber's request, shooting stars should be called Minetti , and the author Schoeneberg vetoed it.
  • Allegedly Lanrue plays with tennis rackets in the song Mole Hill Rockers . He actually did this live.
