The Schernerskopf (or Schernerskogel , also Stermetz ) is 3033  m above sea level. A. (according to other information 3043 m) high mountain in the Venediger group in East Tyrol and can be hiked without going on a glacier. The summit can be reached from Prägraten via the Sajathütte or the Eisseehütte . The Schernerskopf is usually visited when climbing the Kreuzspitze . It is relatively inconspicuous and there is no cross on the summit, just a stone man . In the local dialect it is called Scheagnas , the spelling Scherneskopf can also be found here and there.

location

The Schernerskopf is a secondary peak of the Kreuzspitze in the south of the Wallhorn ridge . It is centrally located above the Sajatkar and is connected to the Kreuzspitze ( 3155  m above sea level ) by a wide summit area. In addition, the south face leads to the Knappenspitz ( 2850  m above sea level ). To the south of the Schernerskopf lies the Sajatkar with the Sajathütte , also to the south, to the west the Hinterbichler Dorfertal with the Dorfer Bach, to the east the Timmeltal with the Timmelbach.

Promotion opportunities

The Schernerskopf can be reached quickly and easily via the wide summit area between it and the Kreuzspitze. From the south there is also the possibility of reaching the Schernerskopf from the Sajathütte via the south wall via ferrata, whereby surefootedness is required here. For this purpose, a narrow path was blasted into the steep face to the right of the south channel and secured with a wire rope. The south channel itself, which consists of brittle rock ( III- ), forms an additional variant . For the ascent via the south channel, the approach is from the southwest ridge down into a grass slope with a wall break, in which the chimney-like south channel is located. To the right of it is a pillar. Since the via ferrata was built, the southern channel has generally not been used.
