The Wallhornkamm is a mountain ridge of the Venediger group in East Tyrol . The highest peak of the Wallhorn ridge is the Zopetspitze ( 3198  m above sea level ). The Wallhorn ridge owes its name to the town of Wallhorn to the southeast .

location

The Wallhorn ridge extends south of the so-called Venedigerstock from northeast to south, with a smaller ridge in the southern third arching to the west. The northernmost boundary of the Wallhornkamm is the Wallhorn Törl of the same name, which separates the Wallhornkamm from the Eichhamstock in the east. In addition, the Timmeltal , which runs from north to south, separates the Wallhorn ridge from the Eichhamstock. In the west the Hinterbichler Dorfertal forms the border to the Dorferkamm , in the north lies the Gschlößkamm . All peaks of the Wallhorn ridge are in the Hohe Tauern National Park . The ridge from the north begins with the Gastach walls, which form an arch to the south-west. At the end of this arch, the Seidlscharte separates the Gastach walls from the Zopetkopf before the ridge rises to the highest point of the Wallhorn ridge, the Zopetspitze. This is followed by the southern Zopetspitze; it is the most important connection between the Hinterbichler Dorfertal and the Timmeltal. In the further course the Tulipitze, the Tulpscharte and the Kreuzspitze follow. A ridge bends from the Kreuzspitze in a south-west arch that houses the Scherneskopf, the Knappenspitz and the Tanzbodenköpfl, followed by the Red Column and the Saukopf after the Sajatscharte . In the southeast ridge, however, are the rear and the front Sajatkopf.

tourism

The Dorfer Tal and the Timmeltall are each accessible by a marked hiking trail from south to north. The two paths are also connected by the Venediger Höhenweg via the Zopatspitze . The Johannishütte is located in the rear Dorfer valley , the Eisseehütte in the rear Timmeltal . In addition, hiking trails lead from the two huts south around the Wallhorn ridge to the Sajathütte , which is located in the Sajatkar south of the Kreuzspitze. The Defreggerhaus can also be reached north of the Wallhornkamm via the Wallhorner Törl or the Johannishütte .
