Schewtschenkowe ( Ukrainian Шевченкове ; Russian Шевченково Shevchenko ) is a village in the Ukrainian Sumy Oblast with 650 inhabitants (2001).
The village, first mentioned in writing in the middle of the 18th century, was called Hyriwka / Hyrjawka ( Гирівка / Гирявка ) until 1923 . On the occasion of a visit by the Ukrainian national poet Taras Shevchenko to the Lasarevskyj family living in the village in 1859, the village was renamed Shevchenko on March 10, 1923.
Shevchenkoe is the administrative center of the district council of the same name in Konotop district , to which the village of Torhowyzja ( Торговиця , ⊙ ) with about 50 inhabitants belongs.
The village is located on the regional road P-60 (the former territorial road T-19-04 ) and on the bank of the canal that connects the rivers Romen and Kukolka ( Куколка ).
Shevchenko is located 20 km south of the Konotop district center and about 120 km west of the Sumy oblast center .
