The schill oak in Braunschweig was planted in memory of the German poet Friedrich von Schiller (1759–1805). It is located in the Museum Park and was established in 1959 as a replacement for smoked oak on the Ägidienmarkt planted. The common oak is a common oak ( Quercus robur ). It has a tree height of 21 meters, a trunk circumference of 229 centimeters and a crown diameter of 19 meters. A ring-shaped flat wall was built around the shingle oak. The original black oak was planted on May 14, 1905 on the 100th anniversary of the poet's death on a triangular traffic island on the Aegidienmarkt. It was almost five meters high. During the ceremony, the aegidia market was decorated with garlands and flags. At the celebration the hussar band played and a choir of students sang the first verse of the song joy, beautiful spark of gods . The ski oak was often used as a meeting place for memorial events and poetry readings.
